7 Semesters Down, 1 More to go!

With my last paper for the Semester yesterday, this Semester has finally concluded! One FINAL Semester to go before graduation. With the shaky economy, it just doesn’t seem like a good time to get into the job market, but who would have predicted this one year ago?

I’ve learnt many things this Semester, and strangely my best modules were from Non-Film related subjects. I decided to overload with 2 Drama Modules to clear my Drama and Performance Minor, one of which was Drama and Alternative Media.

It was made up of a mix of students from the School of Communication, Humanities and Social Sciences and NIE Drama Students. Firstly the variety of my classmates is always an interesting aspect of the drama courses – it was also a nice chance to meet fellow “College of the Arts” schoolmates. Even though we belong to the same umbrella of schools, we are located quite a distance from each other within the campus itself.

Most importantly, this course turned out to be extremely relevant to what I am pursuing now – namely the integration of Film and Theatre mediums. It made me discover geniuses like Robert Lepage in depth, and revisiting other theatre luminaries like Robert Wilson and fine artists like Jenny Holzer, Sophie Calle etc.

Black and White Photography was tedious, and time consuming. I came out learning more about my own art. During critiques the Lecturer alway tells me that my pictures have “concept, but lack the heart / emotion”. I started wondering if this was the case across all my other art, is it something that will come over time? It’s such a intangible entity – “Heart”. Is it when you press the shutter? Is it something you see through the viewfinder? It’s the end of the semester, I haven’t manage to find what he calls “emotion” in my pictures, and I am still looking for them.

Launching straight into rehearsals for Frozen Angels tonight, and then a short getaway to Bintan for 3 days next week, before going full steam ahead with Threshold.

    Learn to enjoy。
